The SSI interface (SSI = Synchronous Serial Interface) is a communication interface for
absolute encoders that is well established in the market. It was originally developed by
Max Stegmann GmbH (now SICK) and is used for serial data transmission, which allows
absolute positions to be conveyed. The advantage of this method of transmission is
that the controller can set not only the time of recording of the position but also the
speed of data transmission. The interface is thus an ideal way to ensure reliable data
transmission.
